WAEC GCE Candidates (2nd series) Can Choose CBT or PPT

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a significant change for the upcoming November West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), also known as the WAEC GCE. Candidates now have the flexibility to choose between Computer Based Tests (CBT) and traditional Paper Based Tests (PPT). This decision was revealed by Dr Amos Dangut, the Head of National Office, WAEC, Nigeria, during a monitoring visit to the ongoing WASSCE.

The examination body had previously conducted a successful pilot of the computer-based WASSCE, known as CB-WASSCE, in January/February. This new approach resulted in improved performance and a significant reduction in malpractices. As a result, private candidates sitting for the WASSCE in November will have the option to choose between the CB-WASSCE and the paper-based test.

The Council is also planning to implement computer-based examinations across all schools, in collaboration with the Federal Government and other stakeholders. Despite skepticism, the transition to the CBT method has proven successful and has significantly reduced the rate of malpractices.
