President Tinubu Appoints Ronke Soyombo as TRCN Registrar
In a significant move for Nigeria’s education sector, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mrs. Ronke Soyombo as the new Chief Executive and Registrar of the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
Mrs. Soyombo brings with her a wealth of experience in education policy, school leadership, and technology integration in education. Until her new appointment, she served as the Senior Special Adviser on Education, Science and Technology to the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
Her appointment was officially announced in Abuja on Thursday, where the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, presented her with the appointment letter. An inside source confirmed to Tribune Online that the appointment takes immediate effect and she will resume office in Abuja on Monday.
A Proven Track Record in Education
Ronke Soyombo is no stranger to leadership in Nigeria’s education sector. She previously served as the Director-General of the Office of Education Quality Assurance in Lagos State, holding the position three times. She also acted as Ogun State’s Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology and simultaneously chaired the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and the Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
Appointed by Governor Abiodun in 2019, Soyombo served diligently across several key education agencies in the state, establishing herself as a reform-driven, results-oriented leader.
Professional and Academic Background
Soyombo is an accomplished educationist, business lawyer, and Microsoft-certified professional. She earned her first degree in Chemistry Education from the University of Lagos in 1989 and followed it with an LLB in Business Law from London Guildhall University (now London Metropolitan University) in 1997. In the same year, she obtained her Microsoft certification in Server and Workstations, demonstrating her expertise in education technology.
With over 30 years of experience teaching in Nigeria and the United Kingdom, her leadership at TRCN is expected to bring renewed focus to teacher standards, certification, and professional development across the country.
A New Chapter for TRCN
TRCN is a federal government agency responsible for regulating and controlling the teaching profession in Nigeria. With Soyombo’s deep-rooted background in education reform and policy, expectations are high for the agency’s growth and enhanced teacher professionalism.
Mrs. Soyombo is set to serve a five-year term in her new role, beginning immediately.
